For those looking to extend your visa in Bali, understanding the latest immigration law is crucial to ensure a seamless and compliant stay. Whether you’re here for leisure, business, or long-term residence, various visa options are available, which come with specific requirements for extension or conversion.

However, it’s important to note that, since 14 June 2025, the process for extending or renewing your visa has changed. Visitors need to visit the immigration office for biometrics purposes (fingerprints and pictures), which was usually not necessary in the past.

We highlight a significant process change and detail the extension processes for various visa types, including the Visa on Arrival (B1), Single Entry Visas (Type C, ex B211), and Multiple Entry Visas (Type D and D12), outlining their requirements and steps.

Furthermore, we also elaborate on how to convert an existing visa to a KITAS using a bridging visa, and the necessary procedures and requirements for renewing a KITAS, emphasizing early application. How can You Extend Your Visa in Bali?

How to Extend Your Visa in Bali

Whether you hold a Visa on Arrival, a Single Entry Visa (Type C / ex B211), or a Multiple Entry Visa (Type D and D12), each comes with specific requirements and procedures. Below, we provide a detailed breakdown of how to extend your visa in Bali for each of these categories.

1. Extending a Visa on Arrival (B1)

The Visa on Arrival (B1) is a visa that you can extend online. The visa extension is paid online, and the tourist must visit the immigration office to process their biometrics. The extension will be valid for an additional 30 days.

2. Extending Single Entry Visa (Type C, ex B211)

The extension of the single-entry business visa and tourist visa initially granted for 60 days is extendable 2 times up to 180 days. The extension is completed online with the sponsor before an appointment is scheduled at the immigration office. Once the extension is ready, the foreigner will receive their ITK (Temporary Stay Permit) for the period.

Requirements for Visa Extension

  • Must apply 7 days before your visa expiry date.
  • Copy of your passport.
  • Copy of flight ticket.
  • A recent colour photograph.
  • Current visa.

  4. We will send you your new stay permit (ITK).

3. Extending Multiple Entry Visa (Type D and D12)

The tourist and business visa extension allows for two additional 60-day extensions, totalling 120 extra days. After this period, individuals must exit and re-enter Indonesia.

Pre-Investment Visa (D12) holders are permitted to extend their stay in Indonesia beyond 180 days. This visa can be extended once for an additional 180 days, after which the holder must exit the country.

Requirements for Visa Extension

  • A copy of your passport.
  • A copy of your flight ticket.
  • A recent color photograph.
  • Your current visa.
  • Please ensure you apply at least 7 days before your visa’s expiration date.

  1. Document Submission: Provide the required documents via our online platform or by visiting our office.
  2. Fee Payment: Settle the applicable visa extension fee.
  3. Immigration Appointment: We will arrange your appointment at the immigration office.

How to Convert Your Visa to a KITAS?

How to Convert Your Visa to a KITAS?

People looking to convert their current single or multiple entry visa into a KITAS, can use bridging visa. This allows you to convert your visa to a limited stay permit (KITAS) without having to leave the country. It saves time and money and avoids a visa run. The process has to start at least 14 days before the expiration date of your current visa.

The bridging visa is applied for online through the sponsor’s account. Once the visa is granted, the applicant must visit the immigration office to provide their biometrics.

This visa is suitable for individuals converting their visa into a working KITAS, a remote worker KITAS, or an investor KITAS. Due to the long procedure for obtaining a working KITAS, we recommend that the applicant convert their current visa into a bridging visa valid for 60 days.

Term Definition
Bridging Visa A short-term visa that allows foreigners to convert their existing visa into a KITAS (limited stay permit) without leaving Indonesia. It avoids the need for a visa run and is valid for 60 days.
KITAS (Limited Stay Permit) A residence permit that allows foreigners to stay in Indonesia for a longer period, usually for work, investment, or remote work. Requires sponsorship and approval from immigration.
Visa Conversion The process of changing a short-term visa (single or multiple entry) into a KITAS without exiting the country, typically done through a bridging visa.
Remote Worker KITAS A limited stay permit designed for digital nomads and remote workers employed by companies outside Indonesia. Typically obtained after converting from a tourist or business visa.
Investor KITAS A KITAS granted to foreigners who have established or invested in a business in Indonesia, such as through a PT PMA.

How can You Renew Your KITAS?

The KITAS extension is valid for all KITAS with a validity of at least 1 year. Additionally, you cannot renew KITAS for a Yoga teacher or a DJ artist. You must submit a new application after proceeding with the EPO (exit permit only) kind of cancellation.

For other KITAS, such as Family KITAS, Investor KITAS, Working KITAS, Retirement KITAS, we recommend proceeding with renewal at least 30 days before the expiration date to avoid any delays and overstay.

Requirements for KITAS Renewal

  • Passport
  • Domicile letter (proof of home address)
  • SKTT (Temporary Residential Registration)
  • Bank statement (with a minimum balance of USD 2,000)
  • The applicant must be physically present in Indonesia to process the KITAS renewal.
  • You should initiate the renewal process 1 to 3 months before the expiration of your current KITAS.

Please note that the SKTT must be ready before the application starts to avoid any delays. We recommend contacting us to avoid any issues with the renewal process.

Steps for KITAS Renewal

  1. Please drop off your passport at one of our four offices in Bali.
  2. Within 7 business days, we will notify you to attend your biometrics appointment at the immigration office.
  3. Visit the immigration office to have your photo taken and fingerprints taken (this process takes approximately 30-40 minutes).
  4. Your passport will be ready and the extension complete, usually 7 business days after your biometrics appointment; we will notify you when it’s ready for collection.
