Business Setup
Representative Office
A foothold in Indonesia without a full company. A representative office lets a foreign business set up a legal presence for research, liaison and promotion while it decides whether to commit to a PT PMA.
Overview
About the representative office
A representative office, known locally as a KPPA, is a licensed presence for a foreign parent company. It can research the market, build relationships, promote the parent products and coordinate with partners, but it cannot sign sales contracts, invoice clients or earn revenue in Indonesia.
It is the low-commitment way in. Many companies use it to test demand, hire a small local team and understand the rules before setting up a PT PMA. There are variations for trade, known as KP3A, and for construction, known as BUJKA, depending on the sector.
