You can extend most Bali visas without leaving Indonesia, but only before your current stay runs out. A visa on arrival (VOA or e-VOA) extends once, by 30 days, for IDR 500,000. A C1 single-entry visit visa extends in 60-day blocks up to 180 days in total, and a KITAS is renewed through your sponsor. Since 29 May 2025 every extension starts online and ends with a photo and short interview at the immigration office that covers your address. Miss the deadline and the fine is IDR 1,000,000 for every day you overstay.
USD figures below use a rough rate of IDR 16,500 to USD 1 and are for orientation only.
Which visas can you extend in Bali, and for how long?
The table shows where each common permit stands in October 2026. “Government fee” means the official PNBP (non-tax state revenue) charge only. Agent or sponsor fees come on top.

What changed for visa extensions in Bali since 2025?
Three things changed, and older articles (including the one this guide replaces) still get them wrong.
1. Extensions are no longer fully online. Under Directorate General of Immigration Circular IMI-417.GR.01.01 of 2025, effective 29 May 2025, you still register and upload documents on evisa.imigrasi.go.id, but you must then attend the immigration office in person for a photo and an interview. This applies to VOA holders too (Kantor Imigrasi Ngurah Rai, Kantor Imigrasi Jakarta Pusat). An agent can prepare and file for you. An agent cannot attend for you.
2. The B211A label is gone. The old B211A single-entry visa now sits under the C index: C1 for tourism, C2 for business meetings, and so on. If someone quotes you “B211A extension” prices, ask which C visa they actually mean.
3. Immigration has its own ministry. Immigration moved from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, which issued the 2025 circular above. The fees and the e-Visa portal stayed the same.
Elderly applicants, people with disabilities, pregnant or breastfeeding women and people in urgent situations may walk in and complete registration, upload and payment at the office with an officer’s help (Kantor Imigrasi Ngurah Rai).
How do you extend a visa on arrival in Bali?
The VOA (the paper version bought at the airport) and the e-VOA (bought online before you fly) follow the same extension route. You get one extension of 30 days, taking you to 60 days in total, for IDR 500,000 (Kantor Imigrasi Yogyakarta). You do not need a sponsor.
When to apply. The portal accepts the request within the last 14 days of your stay. Yogyakarta immigration says the last possible day is one day before expiry, while Manado immigration asks for the request no later than 7 days before expiry (Yogyakarta, Manado). Treat day 7 before expiry as your real deadline. You need time for the appointment.
What you need.
- Passport with more than 6 months of validity left
- A scan of an onward or return ticket out of Indonesia
- The address where you will stay for the next few days, with the correct postal code
- A card or local payment method for the IDR 500,000 fee
Steps.
- Log in to evisa.imigrasi.go.id. If you bought a paper VOA at the airport, first use “Find Existing Stay Permit” to claim it to your account.
- Select your stay permit, choose “Extend”, enter your Bali address and postal code, and upload the ticket.
- Pay the fee. Keep the receipt.
- Wait for the email with your photo and interview instructions. Manado immigration tells applicants to attend within 3 days of payment (Manado).
- Attend the office, dressed with shoulders and knees covered and closed shoes. Flip-flops get people turned away (Yogyakarta).
- Receive the extended e-VOA by email. Check the new expiry date the day it arrives.

How do you extend a C1 or other single-entry visit visa?
The C1 tourist visa gives you 60 days on arrival. Most current sources say it extends twice, by 60 days each time, to a maximum of 180 days (Backindo, Topremit). The government charge for a 60-day visit stay extension has been IDR 2,000,000 since PMK 9/PMK.02/2022 took effect on 16 April 2022 (iNews).
The main difference from a VOA is the sponsor. C visa extensions are filed through a sponsor’s account on the e-Visa portal: a company, an Indonesian family member, or a licensed agency (Emerhub). If you used an agency for the original visa, the extension usually has to go through the same sponsor account.
Documents usually requested.
- Passport and current e-visa
- Sponsor letter and the sponsor’s identity or company documents
- Bank statement showing at least USD 2,000 or equivalent over the last 3 months, the same threshold the portal sets for the visa itself (evisa FAQ)
- Your Bali address with postal code
Timing. Start 14 days before expiry. After payment, immigration assigns the biometric appointment, and you collect fingerprints, photo and a short interview at the office. Commercial agencies report 5 to 7 working days end to end in Bali, longer around holidays (Bali Easy).

Can you extend a D1, D2 or D12 multiple-entry visa?
Multiple-entry visit visas work on a per-entry clock. D1 (tourism) and D2 (business) give up to 60 days per entry, and the visa itself stays valid for 1, 2 or 5 years (Emerhub). In practice you reset the clock by leaving and coming back, not by extending in Bali. The D12 pre-investment visa allows longer stays per entry. How does KITAS renewal in Bali work?
A KITAS (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas, the limited stay permit card) is renewed by your sponsor, not by you alone. The sponsor is the company for a working or investor KITAS, the Indonesian spouse for a spouse KITAS, or a licensed agency for a retirement KITAS. The sponsor files on the e-Visa portal, pays the PNBP, and you attend the office for biometrics under the 2025 circular.

- Passport, current KITAS and the e-KITAS PDF
- Sponsor letter plus the sponsor’s documents (company NIB, the business identification number, and deed for a PT PMA; KTP, the Indonesian ID card, and marriage certificate for a spouse sponsor)
- Proof of address in Indonesia, and your SKTT (Surat Keterangan Tempat Tinggal, the residence certificate issued by the civil registry). Get it updated before you file. Our SKTT service page explains how

Government fees. One commercial fee table lists IDR 3,000,000 (about USD 182) for a 1-year ITAS and IDR 5,000,000 (about USD 303) for a 2-year ITAS (XPND). The final amount shows on the portal before payment, so check it there.
Result. Once approved, the e-KITAS PDF goes by email to you and your sponsor (Topremit). Save it on your phone and in the cloud.

Can you switch from a visit visa to a KITAS without leaving Indonesia?
Yes, through the bridging stay permit (Izin Tinggal Peralihan, often called the bridging visa), in force since 1 April 2024 (Tempo). It gives you 60 days of legal stay while your new KITAS is processed.
What to know before you rely on it:
- Who can use it: visit visa holders applying for a KITAS, and KITAS or KITAP holders whose permit can no longer be extended.
- Deadline: application and payment no later than 3 days before your current permit expires. The older advice of “14 days before” was a buffer, not the rule. We still recommend the buffer.
- No travel: the bridging permit becomes invalid the moment you leave Indonesia.
- Not an approval: it covers your stay while the new permit is decided. It does not guarantee the KITAS.
- No extension: 60 days, once. If the working KITAS process is slow, start the work permit side early.
This route suits people moving from a C1 or e-VOA to a working, investor or remote worker KITAS. It saves the cost of a flight out and a fresh entry.
Which Bali immigration office handles your extension?
You do not choose. The portal assigns the office from the postal code of the address you enter (Manado), so enter the address where you will actually be on appointment day.

Coverage source: Bali Easy. The sponsor letter and address proof must match the office region, or the submission can be rejected.
What happens at the appointment. Bring your original passport, the printed appointment notice and the payment receipt. Expect fingerprints, a live photo and a few questions about your stay: where you live, what you do in Bali, when you leave. Answer plainly. Saying you “help out” at a friend’s business on a tourist visa can open a separate problem.
What is the overstay fine in Indonesia?
The fine is IDR 1,000,000 (about USD 61) per day, set by Government Regulation (PP) 28 of 2019 (NusaBali, evisa.imigrasi.go.id). It adds up fast:

If you cannot pay, Bali immigration deports and blacklists you (NusaBali). Following the 2024 amendment to the Immigration Law, entry bans can run up to 10 years and be extended (XPND). A deportation stamp also shows up in visa applications elsewhere for years.
Overstaying by one day because you misread your expiry date is still an overstay. Your expiry is on the e-visa or e-KITAS document, not “30 days after I landed” in your head.
What if your flight is cancelled and you cannot leave on time?
Immigration can issue an emergency stay permit (Izin Tinggal Keadaan Terpaksa, ITKT). In March 2026, when Middle East airspace closures stranded travellers routed through Doha, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Ngurah Rai immigration issued ITKT permits for 30 days, extendable by 30, and registered stranded travellers so they would not be charged overstay fines (Metro TV).
You need the airline’s letter confirming the cancellation, your original passport and the cancelled ticket. Go to the office before your current permit expires, not after.
What goes wrong most often, and how do you avoid it?
These are the patterns we see in Bali extension files:
- Filing in the last 2 or 3 days. The portal may accept it, but the appointment slot may land after your expiry date. Start at 14 days.
- Wrong postal code. It sends you to the wrong office. Fixing it costs days.
- Forgetting public holidays. Nyepi (Bali’s Day of Silence) and national collective leave days close offices. Count working days, not calendar days (Topremit).
- Sponsor mismatch. A C1 extension filed by a different agency than the one that issued the visa often stalls.
- Assuming a VOA extends twice. It does not. Plan your exit or switch permits by day 60.
- Back-to-back visa runs. Leaving for Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and returning on a fresh e-VOA is legal on paper. Repeated runs draw questions at the border, and officers can refuse entry. If you are effectively living in Bali, a KITAS is the safer route.
- Working on a visit visa. Extensions involve an interview now. Remote work for an employer abroad on a tourist visa sits in a grey zone; the remote worker KITAS removes the question.

How much does a Bali visa extension cost in 2026?
The government fee is IDR 500,000 to extend a VOA or e-VOA by 30 days, and IDR 2,000,000 for each 60-day extension of a C1 visit visa. KITAS renewal fees depend on the type and length. Agent fees are extra.
Can I extend my e-VOA completely online?
No. Since 29 May 2025 you apply and pay online, then attend the immigration office for a photo and interview. Only vulnerable applicants, such as the elderly or pregnant women, may do the whole process at the office instead.
How many times can I extend a visa on arrival?
Once. The VOA gives 30 days plus one 30-day extension, so 60 days is the maximum. After that you leave Indonesia or switch to another permit before expiry.
When should I apply for my Bali visa extension?
Apply 7 to 14 days before your stay permit expires. Some offices ask for VOA requests at least 7 days before expiry, and the appointment needs time.
What happens if I overstay my visa in Bali?
You pay IDR 1,000,000 per day before you can leave. Beyond 60 days there is no fine option: you face deportation and an entry ban.
Can I go to any immigration office in Bali?
No. The office is assigned from the postal code of your address: Ngurah Rai in Jimbaran for most of south Bali, Denpasar for Denpasar, Sanur and Ubud, and Singaraja for the north.
Can I convert my tourist visa to a KITAS without leaving Bali?
Yes, with the bridging stay permit. It gives 60 days while your KITAS is processed and must be filed at least 3 days before your current permit expires. Leaving Indonesia cancels it.
Can I renew my KITAS from abroad?
No. You must be in Indonesia for the renewal and the biometric appointment. If your KITAS expires while you are overseas, you need a new KITAS.
