How do I register a trademark in Indonesia?

Trademarks must be filed with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Office. Here’s what you need to prepare before submitting for IP registration in Indonesia:

  1. Logo, name, or picture of your service and products.
  2. A clear description of goods and/or services is to be registered for each class in accordance with the brand classification.
  3. Applicant details, such as legal entity details or passport or Indonesian ID card, if it’s a person.
  4. Application form and account in the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Office.

How Long Does It Take to Register a Trademark in Indonesia?

It will take 15 working days to submit and undergo formality checks. After passing document inspection, a trademark application in Indonesia will go through a substantive examination, which lasts 2 months. After that, the certificate will be issued within 150 working days. Ideally, a trademark certificate will be issued within 8 months. The large number of applications for trademark registration in Indonesia means that implementation can take up to 2 years.

Furthermore, it is crucial to screen and do due diligence on your logo, name, and colour prior to submission to avoid rejection. Last but not least, it is important to understand which classification you fall into.
